My name is Michelle Pike, and I’m the Vice President of the Lincoln Park Archery Club.

I’ll admit—I didn’t start shooting because of a lifelong obsession with bows and arrows. Originally, I picked up a bow just to learn a bit more about a hobby my boyfriend (now husband!) was passionate about. But while he was the reason I showed up to the range, the sport itself—and the amazing people in it—are the reason I stayed.

Over the years, archery has become a great go to stress relief. There is something deeply satisfying about stepping up to the line, tuning out the busy week, and having just one single thing to focus on (well, only archery form reminders to focus on). Plus, no matter how long you’ve been shooting, there is always a new goal to chase, a new technique to refine, and the thrill of seeing tangible improvement over time.

That said, as much as I love the pursuit of better scores, my absolute favorite part of the sport is the social aspect and the incredible sense of community.

Archery has a unique way of bringing people together. Whether you’re taking your first lesson or traveling to big competitions across the country, you start recognizing the same friendly faces, sharing stories between ends, and cheering each other on. I’ve met great friends through this sport, and that shared passion creates a welcoming bond that you don’t find just anywhere.

I also have to give a quick shoutout to my husband—while he’s the technical guru who makes sure all my equipment and setup are dialed in just right, I get the fun job of picking out all the colors and making sure the bow looks great, too!

Whether you’re stepping onto the range for the very first time or traveling the competition circuit, LPAC is all about building that same supportive, welcoming community right here in Chicago.

If you see me at the range, please come say hi! I’d love to hear how you got started or just chat about your favorite gear colors.

See you on the line!

Hi everyone!
